Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

Platform: Sega Genesis
Publisher: Namco
Genre: Action
My Rating:   Rated: General Audience
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: This game is very different from the other pac man games and has nothing to do with the arcade games. (Though you can get it as a bonus.)You basically have to do chores for your family. Though its better than it sounds. You have to safely guide pac man across town to get these things. You get to control a sling shot so you can guide pac man through the levels. You also get to tell him where to look and stuff

Graphics: I'm actually pretty happy overall with the graphics. They have well textured sprites and are well colored for its time

Sound: The sound can be very annoying but some of it is kind of catchy. Most of it is boops and bops but it has some nice songs.(Glider/Minecart)

Gameplay: The gameplay itself isn't too bad but when pac man starts acting like an upset 3 year old things are very frustrating. The most fun you can have is when you are super pac man or the glider/minecart games, most of the other stuff feels like a chore.

Closing: I only suggest you pick this up if your a fan/collector
of the series or you can pick it up for VERY little money.

Pac-Man: Special Color Edition

Platform: Game Boy Color
Publisher:
Genre: Kids & Family
My Rating:   Rated: Everyone
Condition: Cart only
Edition: Summary: Pac-Man is one of the few video game characters that truly needs no introduction. The little yellow gobbler dominated the arcades in the 80s, and now Namco has unleashed him to a new generation of players with the introduction of "Pac-Man Special Color Edition". You don't need a Game Boy Color to play this one, but it sure loses a lot of its appeal when played in black and white.
While this isn't an exact translation of the original arcade game, it's still a lot of fun to play. Your job remains the same: guide Pac-Man around a maze, gathering pellets and avoiding ghosts. When the level is cleared you just do the same thing all over again, only faster. We were disappointed that the playing field never changes, but Namco can be forgiven since they also threw the bonus game Pac-Attack on the cartridge. It's an addictive little "Tetris"-like game that also has a challenging puzzle mode, and it serves as a nice break when maze-running gets a little stale. "--T. Byrl Baker"
Pros: Classic arcade gameplay Bonus "Pac-Attack" game is fairly fun Cons: Maze doesn't change

Panzer Dragoon Orta

Platform: Xbox
Publisher: SEGA
Genre: On Rails Shooter
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition:
Edition: Summary: Panzer Dragoon: Orta is a quintessential action game with deceptively simple gameplay. You ride on the back of a flying dragon, blasting enemies and incoming missiles while your scaly friend soars along a predetermined path through gorgeous fantasy landscapes. Floating power-ups serve as tasty rewards to players who are particularly apt at dishing out carnage. Gigantic boss monsters make regular appearances, each one challenging the player to decipher the particular boss's attack pattern and weak points./ While its core gameplay is the very definition of old school, Panzer Dragon: Orta is much more than a shooter on rails. The dragon that Orta rides can shift into three forms: light, medium, and heavy. Success depends on a player's ability to quickly shift between forms in order to take advantage of the particular abilities of each. The medium form is useful in most situations. The light form is fast and maneuverable, ideal for quickly shooting down swarms of projectiles or attaining a favorable tactical position. The heavy form presents a slow, big target, but sports the most damaging weapons in the game. The shape-shifting aspect adds depth to the game, especially considering that each form can be upgraded with power-ups and enables a unique special ability./ Clever shifting strategy and a sharpshooter's eye earn a player much more than victory and power-ups. Skilled players are rewarded with extras such as passages of Panzer Dragoon fiction, concept sketches, additional playable characters, extra missions, and even the original Panzer Dragoon game from 1995. The goodies celebrate the rich history of the Panzer Dragoon series, and fill in the background of the game's unfolding story./ The story is worthy of praise. The game tells the tale of Orta, a young woman who is freed from lifelong imprisonment at the beginning of the game by a wondrous shape-shifting dragon. You play as Orta as she and her dragon blast their way through an oppressive empire's legions of soldiers and bioengineered monsters, all the while seeking the truth behind Orta's imprisonment and destiny./ Disappointingly, the genuinely interesting story is told through subtitles instead of spoken English. Subtitles would be fine for slow sections or noninteractive cutscenes, but Orta's text is displayed during pitched battles. The frantic pace and constant action demand the player's full attention, making it difficult to read text when you're desperately gunning down 20 incoming missiles while dodging around a cliff wall and trying to draw a bead on a flying battleship's weak point. In other words: the game is so good, you shouldn't be forced to take your eyes off the action for even a second./ Challenging, rewarding, and beautiful, Panzer Dragoon: Orta stands with Halo as one of the must-have Xbox games. --Mike Fehlauer/ Pros:/ • Gorgeous graphics/ • Varied gameplay; three dragon forms add depth/ • Excellent extras/ Cons:/ • Subtitles/ • Easy mode isn't/

Paper Mario

Platform: Nintendo 64
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Role-Playing/ Action/ Nintendo 64/ Puzzle Games
My Rating:   Rated:
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Nintendo 64 owners have been patiently waiting for a decent role-playing game, and, at long last, one has arrived in the form of the perplexing Paper Mario. World-famous video game icon Mario stars in this unconventional RPG, which was originally announced as Super Mario RPG 2. Don't be fooled by the cutesy visual exterior of this game, which borrows heavily from the well-established Mario universe. Yep... it's the same lovable Mario who dons his familiar red overalls and unkempt moustache. However, the catch is that Mario now stubbornly appears as a two-dimensional character--despite the largely 3-D exterior gaming environments that surround him. When our flat-headed friend turns around, his paper-thin presence becomes immediately apparent. It's a cool gimmick, but fortunately Paper Mario is far from a cut-and-paste cartoon caper./ As with most RPG titles, players must battle with several menacing enemies as they travel from place to place on their quest. Each encounter requires gamers to strategically choose between various modes of attack. For example, Mario is particularly handy with the hammer--thus you might opt to select his hangover-inducing hammer attack. As the adventure progresses, additional characters will join your quest. Your ever-growing posse gives you more fighting power, as each team member brings new attack moves and powers worth mastering. To advance within the game, you'll need to pay close attention to your health meter, enemy hit points, and your ever-expanding attack options. The game starts with enemies that are easy to defeat, but it quickly becomes quite difficult to survive subsequent attacks without careful planning./ Unlike most RPG games, each attack sequence is enhanced by a special action function. Instead of passively sitting back and watching each attack move occur, the player can enhance your attack by pressing a button or moving the directional controller at precisely the right time. As someone who has racked up several hours (and more than a few snoozes) during repetitious RPG attack sequences, the action feature is a welcome addition to break up the monotony of multiple attacks./ Fans of the traditional Mario games will appreciate the return of familiar characters, such as Princess Peach and Luigi. Perpetual baddie Bowser even plays a key role in this addictive adventure. Best of all, there are plenty of hidden areas and extras to uncover. Paper Mario may boast elements of the classic platform gaming genre, as well as the traditional RPG--but it ultimately cuts through all expectations to deliver an experience that appeals to both casual and hard-core gamers. --Brett Atwood/ Pros:/ • Weeks of gaming due to expansive environments/ • Hidden goodies to uncover/ • Classic Mario gameplay mixed with traditional RPG action/ Cons:/ • Highly addictive (prepare to lose some sleep)/ • Cartoon exterior may not appeal to some hard-core gamers/

My Rating:   Rated: Everyone

Edition: Summary: Parappa the Rapper was a tremendous hit for the Playstation, thanks to its cartoony graphics, fun story and innovative gameplay. Players would listen to catchy rap songs and attempt to "rap" by pressing buttons to the beat. Parappa became a video game icon and has been an unofficial mascot of PlayStation ever since. Ten years later, Parappa the Rapper returns to win over another generation of fans with all new PSP system exclusive features! Players can once again join Parappa in his quest to win the heart of Sunny Funny and learn from their favorite Rap Masters like Chop Chop Master Onion, Instructor Mooselini, and Cheap Cheap The Cooking Chicken.

PaRappa The Rapper 2

Platform: Playstation 2
Publisher: Sony
Genre: Music
My Rating:   Rated: Everyone
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Released in November 1997, the original PaRappa the Rapper was lauded for its simple gameplay and unique setting. One of the first rhythm games to hit the American market, it required gamers to match onscreen commands à la Simon Says. Its accessible gameplay, combined with an offbeat story (a rapping canine trying to win the heart of a flower), songs, and characters made it a hit. Now in PaRappa the Rapper 2, Sony brings back its old dog to the PS2, but doesn't bother to teach him new tricks. It's a fun but short game that anyone can play. However, fans of the original may be disappointed that Sony hasn't advanced the series much in the last four years (28 in dog years)./ This time around PaRappa must stop the evil Noodle Syndicate that's turning all the food in the world into noodles. The wacky story unfolds in Rodney Greenblat's unique visual style. The playful graphics are 2-D with heavy cel shading, but aren't much of an advancement from the original. It would have been nice if Greenblat had created a 3-D version of PaRappa. Likewise, the gameplay is virtually identical to the original. Although there is a two-player mode that adds replay value, players can easily beat the eight levels in single-player mode in fewer than four hours. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is the game's music; although cute, the game's tunes aren't nearly as memorable as those in the original. Still, players new to the series will find the game charming. Fans of the original are bound to be a bit disappointed. --Raymond M. Padilla/ Pros:/ • Cheerful graphics style/ • Simple gameplay/ • Humorous songs/ Cons:/ • Graphics and gameplay aren't too different from the original PS One version/ • Extremely short/ • Songs aren't as memorable as in the original/

Parasite Eve

Platform: Playstation
Publisher: SquareSoft
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated: Mature
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Parasite Eve tells the story of Aya Brea of the NYPD on a case involving mass spontaneous human combustion, mutating animals, and the mitochondria revolution. Sound fun? Confusing? Parasite Eve is both./ It begins when Aya is attending an opera at Carnegie Hall. The soloist bursts into song and the audience bursts into flames. Somehow, Aya is the only attendee who isn't affected. Not surprisingly, she wants to know what's going on. This curiosity, coupled with her duties as a police officer, grows into a full-scale investigation./ Parasite Eve's mechanics are simple, yet elegant. From combat to level advancement, the game runs easily and smoothly, making it ideal for someone new to role-playing games (RPGs). Experienced RPGers should still enjoy it for its brilliant storyline./ Technically speaking, the game's graphics and sound are good, but not spectacular. The full-motion cutscenes are superbly done. Parasite Eve is a good game--there's just not enough of it. While it doesn't feel crammed together, the story seems to resolve quickly. Brilliant while it lasted, Parasite Eve left me wanting more. --John Cocking/ Pros:/ • Mutating dogs/ • Involving storyline/ • Elegant game mechanics/ Cons:/ • Too short, and it's confusing/

Parasite Eve II

Platform: Playstation
Publisher: SquareSoft
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated: Mature
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Three years ago, gamers were introduced to Aya as she resigned from the New York Police Department and enlisted as a NMC (neo-mitochondrion creature) hunter for the shadowy government organization M.I.S.T., a secret agency of monster slayers somewhere between Ghostbusters and Men in Black. Wherever there was a neo-mitochondrion outbreak, Aya and her team were on the scene to put the boots to the mutants. From the outset, it's evident that SquareSoft revamped the entire game to give gamers a better looking, sounding, and (most importantly) playing experience./ The game starts with Aya training in the agency's shooting gallery in Los Angeles. Just as she begins to get in a groove, she is asked to look into some strange happenings at the Akropolis Tower. When she arrives on the scene, an explosive, full-motion video flashes across the screen and showcases the death and carnage as Aya surveys the scene. Her entry into the Tower is where this RPG begins./ SquareSoft has kept some of the excellent elements of the weapons systems from the first Parasite Eve title, but went for an entirely new battle system. Combat is delivered in real time and allows players to run, hide, and open fire. Aya can tap into her parasitic powers and can unleash elemental, magic-based attacks on the many foes she encounters. Ammunition is plentiful in the game and there are plenty of entertaining weapons to choose from. Auto targeting and involving puzzles are back, though the arrow-pointing interface for solving these puzzles is really hard to operate./ The cinematic mix of story and action is very well done, and the numerous cutscenes do an excellent job of moving the pace along in a believable way./ Even though the original Parasite Eve had its problems, SquareSoft has pieced together an excellent sequel that will satisfy fans of the first game and help create many new ones. --Todd Mowatt/ Pros:/ • New, real-time battle system is an improvement over first Parasite Eve/ • Great weapons and plentiful ammunition/ • Great mix of story and action/ Cons:/ • Clunky interface for solving puzzles/

Perfect Dark

Platform: Nintendo 64
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: First-Person Shooter
My Rating:   Rated: Mature
Condition: Missing manual
Edition: Summary: A first-person shooter that mixes spy and sci-fi, Perfect Dark is both a thoroughly engrossing one-player experience and a riotously fun multiplayer romp. Easily one of the best games of its genre on any video game console, this long-awaited follow-up to GoldenEye 007 is a must-have for Nintendo 64 owners--and a damn good reason to be one if you're not./ The futuristic Perfect Dark casts players as Joanna Dark, a secret agent who becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy involving aliens and an evil corporation. Gameplay is broken down into missions, each with objectives that must be unerringly completed before progressing to the next mission. This is not your typical kill-anything-that-moves game: putting a bullet in the wrong person, not keeping the right one alive, or perforating a seemingly unimportant inanimate object can often result in mission failure./ While Perfect Dark's solo missions play out much like those in GoldenEye 007, the game's fantastic multiplayer options are another matter entirely. Cooperative and counteroperative simultaneous-play modes allow for another player to join in on a mission as, respectively, a teammate or the enemy. However, the real fun here is in the highly customizable Combat Simulator, a one-to-four-player simultaneous-play mode that features both free-for-alls and team-based challenges and can include up to eight Simulants, computer-controlled combatants of varying behavior./ Although Simulants make for decent adversaries or teammates, you'll want to grab a friend--and an Expansion Pak, as only 35 percent of the game is available without one--to fully enjoy Perfect Dark. --Joe Hon/ Pros:/ • One of the best first-person shooters on any video game console/ • Outstanding multiplayer game with huge replay value/ • Bevy of game options, cheats, and secret features/ • Excellent training mode with challenges all of its own/ Cons:/ • Graphics get ugly when playing with more than two players/

Personal Trainer: Cooking

Platform: Nintendo DS
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Kids & Family
My Rating:   Rated: Everyone
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Personal Trainer: Cooking brings gourmet cooking from around the globe to your Nintendo DS. It features a DS Chef, your own private cooking instructor who talks you through 245+ recipes from more than 30 countries worldwide. It's a combination of interactive cookbook and live cooking demonstration that'll have you cooking like a pro, even if you've never lifted a ladle before. You and the Chef will collaborate on a wide variety of recipes, with videos of techniques, explanations of ingredients and expert advice. With its innovative interface and the interactivity that only the DS can provide, it's a perfect learning tool for the budding chef.

As you browse recipes, just tap a box to mark ingredients you need to buy. The DS will automatically store them in your in-game shopping list. Later you can take your DS to the store and check off the ingredients as you put them in your cart.

Search for recipes by ingredients, calorie count, cooking time, difficulty and more.

Hands covered in batter? Keep your DS clean using voice commands to continue to the next page, repeat a step, go back and more.
About the game: The first thing to do is select a recipe. With 245+ to choose from, Personal Trainer: Cooking makes it easy to find what you're looking for by helping you browse by country, ingredients, difficulty, cooking time, cooking technique or even calorie count. Once you've found something that looks tasty, take a look at the ingredients. Out of butter or need to buy some cumin? Just tap them with the stylus to automatically add the ingredients to your Shopping List. Making several dishes tonight? Just keep tapping ingredients - your Shopping List keeps it all in one place for you. Now that you've got your ingredients, it's time to start cooking. The DS Chef is there with you, talking you through every step along the way. Don't know how to fillet a trout? Watch the demonstration video when you get to that step. Didn't quite catch the last step? Just say "Repeat," and the Chef will explain it again. You can pause the recipe at any time to consult the Cooking A-Z guide, and prompts will appear within recipes for specific terms you might need more information about.
Becoming a Better Cook: When you finish each recipe, you put a stamp on the in-game calendar, marking what you've made and when you made it. Later, you can search by whether or not you've made a dish before, allowing you to perfect your technique on a particular recipe, or keep expanding your culinary horizons. With an extensive in-game reference of cooking terms, pictures and demonstration videos, you can tailor your cooking experience to your level of skill, then watch that skill grow as you keep cooking.
Special Input Options: The game can be controlled entirely with the stylus, for maximum accessibility. When your hands are full, covered in cookie batter or otherwise unavailable, all of the in-recipe commands can be given by speaking to the DS microphone. The keyword search function uses handwriting recognition, so you can simply write out that you're looking for a "sweet" something. Finally, that same handwriting recognition is used to make notes on recipes. If you want to remember to reduce the salt, or simply that this recipe was especially tasty, the software takes the same role as the handwritten note in a cookbook.

Phantasy Star Collection

Platform: Game Boy Advance
Publisher: THQ
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated: Everyone
Condition: Cart only
Edition: Summary: I remember when I used to watch my cousin play phantasy star 1 and other great games (Spellcaster another great sega rpg) during the late 80's for the sega master system. I was just six but had vivid memories and was just astounded of him playing through the whole game. Fast foward to 2004, and just realizing that the phantasy star series came out for the GBA.
First off let me just say that before there was the Final Fantasy series, the Phantasy Star series started the rpg revolution. It's breakthrough for its day were the 3D dungeons, vast storyline, and it's array of numerous weapons, not to mention the vast area of exploring (3 worlds!).
I'f your the type of player who only enjoys first person shooters
or Final Fantasy 7 to 11 graphics, look elswhere. But if you wouldn't mind playing a great rpg classic, you can't miss this.
My only complaint for this game was that it didn't include Phantasy Star 4. Hopefully it will be re-released as a single port for the gba to. Also, BE WARNED! SAVE OFTEN! I am already half way through phantasy star 1 and that save bug crased my game 18 times already (yeah I counted every time it happened) and I know it's not just me with this problem. So unless you wouldn't mind loosing three hours of leveling up, you better save often.

Phantasy Star II

Platform: Sega Genesis
Publisher: SEGA
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated:
Condition: Cart only
Edition: Summary: Phantasy Star II was the best RPG of its generation. The seemingly simple game by Sega introduced complex, party-based combat to a generation of Genesis owners who missed the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. PSII featured turn-based combat in which you could see your character carrying out the action you had ordered. This simple feature made combat extremely entertaining, and provided incentive to get new weapons and abilities. Watching Rolf, the protagonist, run up to a dragon and deliver a vicious slash with his laser sword is one of my favorite gaming memories.

In PSII you control a party of up to 4 characters. Players wander around a world map until they encounter one of the random battles that are extremely common. This game is combat heavy! Expect to spend most of your time wading through vicious battles and leveling your party.

While the combat is excellent, and holds up very well over time, the story is also extremely advanced for a Genesis game. PSII has a dark tone to it, and there is an excellent plot twist mid-way through the game. In some ways the plot mirrors that of Final Fantasy VII, despite the fact that PSII came out years earlier. I don't want to give anything away, but some aspects of those two games are VERY similar.

If you can get your hands on a copy of PSII (I'm not selling mine!) check it out. The graphics are surprisingly strong for a Genesis title, and the audio isn't bad either. Of course, this is one of my all-time favorites, so I'm a little biased.

Phantasy Star III

Platform: Sega Genesis
Publisher: SEGA
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated:
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Even among Phanatics like myself, Phantasy Star III tends to get passed off as a lacking game. This is truely sad, however, because it's not in any sense of the term.
Phantasy Star III does differ from the other games in the series, as its graphical style is a bit more detailed, but there is less animation in the battles. Significantly less. This is the biggest drawback of the game. The other drawback is that if the game had been translated more closely from the Japanese version, it would be considerably more indepth.
Nonetheless, Phantasy Star III has 4 different endings, and spans the adventures of 3 generations of heros-- and YOU get to decide who each generation's main character marries. At first, Phantasy Star III seems to have no apparent connection to the rest of the series, but an attentive gamer will have it figured out by the end of the game.
Some would say the game is fairly shallow, but if you track the careers of each character as they appear in different versions of the same generation, there is a deep story waiting to be revealed.
In any case, the game is well worth picking up. Those that were introduced to the Phantasy Star series with Phantasy Star III will swear by the game-- As with many things, for those who love Phantasy Star, you tend to love the first one you played the most.

Phantom Brave Limited Edition

Platform: Playstation 2
Publisher: NIS America
Genre: Role-Playing
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: I have seen a lot of divergent reviews for this game, so I feel the need to set the record straight. This game is similar to a tactical simulation, however it uses an active movement and attack system somewhat similar to games like Vagrant Story or Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, however this game is mostly two-dimensional with sprites being used instead of 3d character models, on a 3d background. It plays a lot like its other Nippon Ichi predecessors, it is a turn-based strategy game, however without tile based movement and attacks. Because of that, you can end up spending a good deal of time lining up attacks carefully to ensure maximum coverage.

This game is quite diverse and gives your characters a very wide range of abilities to learn and use, so many that it may prove too much for most people to give every attribute and skill to even one character. This lends itself well to people who can invent and use unconventional tactics and open themselves up to creative thinking when playing the game. The art is cutesy and nice, which is expected of a Nippon Ichi game. The music while not great is easily acceptable. In typically Japanese fashion, most of this game lacks the kind of censorship Americans expect, seeing as there is no such thing as verbal censorship as a part of morality in Japan; Japanese explicatives are only considered rude when used as insults, and are not considered immoral. Therefore, while the art and music seem childlike, and the game genre and some of the dialog seem mature, the truth is that the game itself was originally intended for all video game playing audiences.

One complaint heard a lot is about the confinement system. Instead of having your party with you at all times, battles always start with just Marona (the main character), and you must confine the phantoms who compose your party inside of material objects (such as rocks, trees, flowers, and items) scattered around the battlefield. Party members remain so confined and able to act and do battle until their confinement period ends, usually five turns or less, at which time they will disappear and the objects will revert back into their previous state. The complaint is that not enough turns are given to complete the battle, this is a straw man argument against the game. The purpose of the confinement system is to make you recruit and train enough phantoms to last through a battle instead of making the game easy to defeat with just two or three characters like Disgaea.

Overall, the game is very good and unique. Some parts like the music could use a little polish, however nothing in the game really detracts from the overall experience. The biggest complaint I have really is that the game can be slightly repetative, especially if you've played other strategy games for long stretches of time. As with all things, strategy games require moderation!

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

Platform: Sega CD
Publisher: Activision
Genre: 2D Platformer
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition: Disc only
Edition: Summary: I've been a fan of Pitfall since I was a young kid when I used to play the original Pitfall on the Atari 2600 all the time. "Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure" is a great update to the Activision classic. You take Pitfall Harry on a journey through many different levels ranging from a waterfall level to a runaway mine cart level, and many others such as a lost ruins level. Pitfall Harry is on a mission to save his dad (the one that was in the original Pitfall), and it's your mission to get him there.
This game has some of the best graphics for the Super Nintendo and you'll see that throughout the game. It has good controls, the sound and music couldn't have been done any better, and it's a lot of fun. Pitfall Harry has many weapons you can use, including a belt, rocks, and many other powerups that you can find. You can also keep hold of the attack button for a few seconds and make Pitfall Harry use an extra strong attack. At the end of some of the levels there's a boss you have to defeat to get to the next level. While you make your way through the game, you will have to use many tactics to get through the levels, such as using whips to make your way across vines. The enemies are plentiful with snakes, spiders, skeleteons, etc.
"Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure" isn't an impossible game to beat, but it does have a good challenge. And once you do beat the game, it's always fun to start from the beginning and play it all over again. To keep the replay value from falling through, you can find the original Atari 2600 version of Pitfall somewhere in the game. Which, for anybody who grew up with the Atari, is a major plus. If you like fun adventure and action games, I definitely recommend getting this one.

Plasma Sword

Platform: Sega Dreamcast
Publisher: Capcom
Genre: Fighting
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition: Complete
Edition: Summary: Capcom has a reputation for making great fighting games, with the "Street Fighter" series crowning its list. "Plasma Sword", yet another fighter from Capcom and the sequel to "Star Gladiator" for the PlayStation, gives players 22 characters, each with his or her own plasma weapon ranging from rifles and swords to rings and oversized yo-yos.
The game is set in the future, with neo-cities, dead planets, and outer space filling the backgrounds. The characters range from cyborgs to lone swordsmen, each with a slightly altered double. Characters can use pent-up energy to perform superpowerful plasma combos that are a visual treat.
For those familiar with fighting games, "Plasma Sword"'s controls should be a quick study, while those not familiar with fighting games can switch to easy mode, which lets you perform special moves with just one button.
Like other fighting games, this game centers on brawling, yet it isn't as violent as "Mortal Kombat" or "Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style". One drawback of "Plasma Sword" is that graphics are rendered in 2-D as opposed to more cutting-edge 3-D fighters like Namco's must-own "Soul Calibur". Still, for a game with slightly dated graphics, it's a solid fighting game. "--Robb Guido"
Pros: 22 characters each with his or her own plasma weapon Special-effect enhanced plasma combos Cons: Mainly for fans of fighting games Not as complex as other Capcom fighters, for better and for worse

Pokemon Puzzle League

Platform: Nintendo 64
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre:
My Rating:   Rated: Everyone
Condition: Cart only
Edition: Summary: Although the Pokémon aspect of Pokémon Puzzle League is purely thematic--which might disappoint lovers of Pikachu, while still warding off nonfans--the fun and challenging gameplay here makes this title one of the best in the puzzle genre./ Gameplay in Pokémon Puzzle League is a variation on the puzzle classic Tetris: players must clear blocks off the screen by switching adjacent horizontal blocks to create horizontal and vertical lines of three or more identically colored blocks. Blocks rise in rows from the bottom of the screen, and, once they reach the top, the game is over. While it's deceptively easy at first, the steadily increasing speed of the rising blocks requires players to make combos (more than three blocks in a line) and chains (creating multiple lines simultaneously), both of which pause the rise of the blocks temporarily./ Featuring six gaming modes and puzzles in both 2-D and 3-D, Pokémon Puzzle League is best played by one player versus the computer (in the Stadium) or in two-player "versus" mode. In these modes, creating combos and chains causes "garbage" blocks to fall from the top of your opponent's screen, which results in some villainously vindictive gameplay.--Joe Hon/ Pros:/ • Fun and challenging Tetris-like game for all ages/ • Outstanding two-player "versus" gameplay/ • 2-D and 3-D puzzles, six gaming modes, and very thorough tutorials/ • "Puzzle University" mode lets players create their own puzzles/ Cons:/ • Pokémon aspect of the game is purely thematic/

Power Stone

Platform: Sega Dreamcast
Publisher: Capcom
Genre: 3D Fighting
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition: Disc only
Edition: Summary: Packed with all the energy and over-the-top moves of a Jackie Chan movie, "Power Stone" revitalizes the fighting game genre with fully functional 3-D combat environments and frenzied strategy. Face your opponent in a London courtyard and you can hurl café chairs and tables at him before taking him out by swinging around a lamppost. Or fight in a dilapidated shopping mall, and beat your foe down with a giant stuffed teddy bear after tossing him through a storefront window. Each multilevel combat area is stocked with crates, barrels, clubs, even ray guns, and everything can be used as a weapon.
Interactive fighting environments are fun, but what really sets "Power Stone" apart are the power stones. Collecting all three stones transforms the character into a superbeing, unlocking new and devastating attacks. Since the overall goal of the game is to beat up your opponent, and the superform lets you do the most damage, competition for the stones is fierce.
If you're tired of the standard fighting game formula and want a little more, "Power Stone" is the game for you. It's a perfect translation of the arcade hit, and the uncomplicated, frantic combat will bring a grin to many a jaded gamer's face. "--Mike Fehlauer"
Pros: Easy to learn, fast-paced gameplay 11 unique, multilevel, interactive fighting environments Great use of VMU Smooth, vivid, arcade-quality graphics Cons: Game may be too frantic for some players

Project Justice

Platform: Sega Dreamcast

Genre: 3D Fighting
My Rating:   Rated: Teen
Condition: Disc only
Edition: Summary: Rival Schools: Project Justice is great! I didn't think that this game would be this good because I was not impressed with the PS1 version. But boy was I wrong!! This game is tight! The graphics are clean, the characters are cool and origional, the story mode is decent and the extras add replay value to the title.
I once owned both this and Soul Calibur and I must say that this is better that Soul Crap...er I mean Calibur. The moves are more along the lines of Street Fighter but not played out and overdone. Almost all the characters are playable and entertaining (unlike any Street Fifgter game) and the game itself is a joy to play.
On a bad note my only turn-off is that the last boss has a demon posessed sword (was that a hot idea in 1999, 2000?). This, in my opinion, is a tired and weak excuse for a last boss, it reminds me of the lame and seriously dark (and demonic) story line of Soul Calibur.
If it were not for that lack of origionality in designing a last boss then this game would be one of the greatest of all time. As it is its just great and worth it to any Dreamcast owner.
